Digital Signal Fluctuates

I live in a "fringe" area . . .
Up until 3 weeks ago I have been getting great digital reception with all my local channels.
However, recently many of the channels' signal has been fluctuating wildly . . . going from bad to "almost good".
I either don't get the channels or the signal breaks up.
Why would I get great reception then lose it?
