disable tv reception Can't Post

I am getting a Sanyo LCD HDTV model# DP26649 for playing Wii video games. I would like to modify the tv so that it will not receive broadcast tv or be able to watch dvds. I would prefer a technique that would be reversible, but will permanently disable it if necessary.

I understand that tvs have parental control functions. That is not what I am looking for. I want to physically disable the ability to watch tv. Thanks!

when you switch on the tv the microprocessor interrogates the internal workings of the tv to ensure all is working before it allows the tv to start up. if you go removing bits or cutting supply voltages here and there the chances are the set will not power up. have you thought about not plugging the antenna in or not buying a DVD? it's much simpler and your friends won't think you are a basket case.

Thank you for that info. Is there something I can do perhaps to the jack that receives the antenna? I do need the ability to physically disable this (and my friends already think I am unusual).

Remove the Tuner(s) and whichever input jacks(s) you don't want. If you're real good with desoldering, you may "float" the pins (or you may have to completely remove tuner & jacks and store them in a baggie).
As techchris said, doing this may result in set reporting an "error" (or not allowing set to run).

Why not install TV in a cabinet with doors (or build a "box") and lock up the set?

I can't lock up the set in a cabinet because I have to allow unrestricted access to the wii for the kids that are trustworthy. There are other relatives that come over at times that can not be trusted.

But I don't want to risk making the device not work at all. What do you think would happen if I put super glue in the jack, then plugged in the antenna, then cut off the plug? (So that the input jack was in effect plugged-up)

look inside to see if the antenna socket is part of the tuner or separate. if it is a standalone socket, just remove it otherwise just cut off the centre pin of the socket.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that that is a dumb idea....
The 2 quotes above are in conflict with eachother....
IF you superglue anything , do you really expect it to be reversible ???
IF you superglue the jack or connector with wires/cables hooked up to it , you can kiss that connector/jack goodbye....PERIOD !!!!
IF the connector is on the tuner , well , good luck trying to reverse that....
WHY would you want to permantly disable the tuner ???
Is the TV STRICTLY for the kids use ???
IF that's the case then what you are trying to accomplish makes sense..,..
But next time I'd reccommend you buy a monitor....

GOOD LUCK & have fun....Sly.....

I don't think you can do it reversibly. Everyone I know who's done something like this has had to solder at some point

Actually, I am not deep regarding this problem; it is the general thing that you will have to maintain the antenna. If I get any information related to this post, I would with you. Thanks for comment.

i'm thinking why you want to do it. so you indeed an unusual person!
and if i was you, maybe i will get a signal jammer. i can control this kind of jammer to let it work or not via starting or closeing it. so that it is easy to reach the requires what you want...

When can I buy this kind of waterproof TV for my bathroom?
