Convergence question Can't Post

I have a Samsung PCL5415RX/XAA made 2002
I try to locate Convergence board but seems like the STK392-040 Hybrids are in one of those large boards in bottom of the TV.
Is there separate Convergence board or not??
Has anyone have a picture (Photo) of convergence board.
Board where STK's are mounted is AA41-00340
See pic.

I have the same problem. PCL5415R X/XAA. This is the second time I have had a convergence problem. Last time was 1-29-04 and cost me over $500 to have repaired. I was told that the convergence circuitry is part of the main mother mother board and thats why I could not replace it myself. I am a very hands on person and actually helped the repair main re-install the mother board after the repair. Is there a part number? Or are there I/C that need need to be replaced? See attachment. Please help!

Same problem here. Samsung PCL5415RX/XAA. Convergence problem where the green is bowed at the top. I have called Samsung Repair Tech (not very friendly) and read numerous threads and looked at several parts store websites. I have found 4 possible parts and the repair tech gave me another part # and now I am very confused. The metal board with the STKs looks like it is difficult to remove.
Can anyone give us a part number that will help fix our problem as well as how to install the part?
MikeMaierTV, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yeah....well the guy couldn't remember and/or see where some of the plug ins were on the board. So is there anyone here that will actually help us?

Flava flav, I`ll answer your post because you showed pictures of the set, but this post is aimed at ALL OF YOU CONSUMERS READING THIS:You have convergence problems, it may or may not be just the convergence IC`s, this is not an easy job for a layperson to accomplish, it amazes me that most consumers gripe that they had to pay "500.00 the last time the set broke". Please remember that us techs, didn`t make the set, didn`t break the set, didn`t design the set,
we just fix the dam things when they break ! You can take the screws out of the bar that goes in front of the STK`s, there are either 2 or 3 IC`s depending on your set, and get the numbers right off the front of the IC`s, unsolder the pins and re-install a new set if you want but be advised, MANY other things can also be wrong, replacing the IC`s DOES NOT nescessarily fix the set, when it does fix the set it may work for a few weeks or months and then fail again because you
1. Didn`t buy original IC`s (you got cheap chinese knock-offs from an el-cheapo parts source)
2. Missed replacing a resistor or capacitor that got damaged when the STK`s failed which eventually causes the new STK`s to overheat and fail again.
3. Have a failing "DCU" (digital convergence unit) which is expensive to replace.
You can do what you want to do but calling a reputable tech is still your best bet, remember also that there are LETHAL voltages in any tv set, good luck cause you`ll need it, Larry E

Re: [Larry E] Convergence question [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you Larry E for responding! It seems I can't find any good information on the net about this particular unit. And i understand your concern, but I do have the skills to fix almost anything.
I was there and right on seen when the repair man took the board out of the TV....A few screws and pulling some plugs (not rocket science). Once the board is out of the TV there shouldn't be any high volatage issues should there? I'm sure it depends on the what the board has on it (power supply, etc). I can post more pics.
I would buy the right replacement parts, I know that I would not want to skimp spending that money. Would I just have to use a tester to specifically check if each resistor or capacitor to make sure it has not gone bad?

Re: [flava flav] Convergence question [In reply to] Can't Post

if you remove the entire board then HV is not an issue, you need a good quality dvm (fluke, sencore etc.)
to check the low Ohm precision resistors, you need to unsolder one leg and pull it from the board and then
measure them to get an accurate reading, be advised if it`s supposed to be 2.2 Ohms and it reads 2.7
it has to be changed, which brings to mind that you have to have the service manual to order the exact
part # you need, generics will NOT have the correct tolerance, the more I think about it the more I think
you need to call a tech, you can try replacing the STK`s and pray nothing else has failed but if you do
decide to replace just the STK`s on your own be CERTAIN you order ORIGINAL SANYO IC`s or your just
wasting your time, Larry E

Finnman,
After buying the new board, is it an easy fix? I just ordered a new board today and hope to have the tv up and running for college football season.
Any suggestions or comments on putting the new board in? Any soldering or difficult steps to take to change?
Thanks!

Ohh
One more thing
Make sure that all connectors are clean and correct places before you connect power
Then just do convergence (picture perfect) adjustment manual and automatic

Fixed mine! Bought the part AA95-01846D from partstore.com. Unplugged the old board, plugged the new one in and it works! I am not a tv repairman and this seemed like an easy task. It was semi-difficult to get my hand in there to unplug some of the cables, but that was the hardest part. $170 for a fixed 54" projection tv is great!

Many thanks Ace and Finnman. I actually was able to get this board off Ebay. Saved about $60.00. You are right, just plug and play. Now I have my TV back. I appreciate the help.

Ok can someone please help me. My convergence seems to have gone bad. My screen is bowed. I replaced the convergence board as many others have done. No luck. My set still has a bowed picture. I have a Akai PT4298HD. Thanks.

Oh yeah. I tried adjusting the convergence on my set in service mode and the lines won't move one bit.

If you're looking to get that board, aa95-01846d, go to www.cablesnbulbs.com and ask them for a price.

Yes, it is everything you need! I hadn't repaired mine for a while due to time constraints but I just bought the board last week and it took me 15 minutes to install. Plug and play! I just did a perfect focus after that and manually adjusted the blue and red on the edges afterwards. $180 shipped two day....much better than $500!!!!! Angelic Thanks to the new guys above that found the easiest solution to this problem. Wink
