My Samsung's posessed...HELP! Can't Post

Hi, I've been lurking on these forums for a while, mostly using the search feature... as I am the amateur TV repairman for my friends and family. Well, It's finally time... I fell victim too. My Samsung HCM-4215W, a 42" hdtv set that I picked up 4 years ago as a floor model from Best Buy is in need of some serious help! My wife and I were watching TV last week when all of a sudden it just turned off. It then turned back on again. Then, two seconds later... off again... then on again... and so on. I did a search on these boards and decided that the convergence board could be the problem, so I ordered one and plugged it in.... same exact problem. Can anyone please help a desperate guy out??? Unsure

Have you checked for bad solder joints? You could monitor the HT voltage from the power supply to see if it shuts down, or it may be the set is powered up but you have lost the signal .does the picture look normal when you can see it?

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. Unfortunately, there's no picture on the set. I'll take a multimeter to the input AC voltage this morning to see what happens. What I did notice, however, is a "relay sound" .... a click.... that goes off every 6 seconds or so. It sounds like high voltage...

It sounds like a HOR o/p problem that is tripping the power supply. disconnect the HOT transistor and see if the power supply starts up <br>

Thanks for the tip. After a long day of work, I finally had the time to take a closer look at the IC board. It seems that there is some sort of transformer - not the main power transformer - but, a slightly smaller one.... it shows signs of "overheating". By that, I mean its plastic housing shows some early signs of melting. There are no burn stains evident. I was able to trace the output lines of the transformer to the small main circuit board that seems like some kind of sophisticated splitter... it then leads to the "projectors(?)".
I took a few pics with my digital camera.
Pic#/Notes:
1. The first picture has a red circle around the transformer in question.
2. A closer shot of the transformer (Samsung Part No. AA26-00053A) Other markings: "NY227C"
3. This third picture shows the complex "splitter" leading to the projectors. It is also visible in pic #1 (top left).
4. A close-up of the base of the transformer, and the supposed "melting".
I'd love to hear any opinions... thanks...

I've never had a fault with that transformer. what you could do next is disconnect the high voltage splitter by removing the red lead that comes up from the flyback transformer to the high voltage splitter(it looks like the right hand lead) by flipping open the grip and pulling the lead out of the block and putting the end of the wire in a plastic bottle to prevent 30000 volts from spraying around in the next stage. switch on and see if the tv starts you can guess the splitter is faulty if it does.if not then the horizontal transistor or flyback transformer may be faulty
