akai pt4298 HD Can't Post

i havent had this tv long ... got it used and the first several hours of use were perfect.. then the color started fading in and out... it would go really bright... then darker.. sometimes a real bright yellow tint to it... and keep fading in and out .. like it was trying to adjust itself or something... can anyone shed some light on what this problem might be... there do not seem to be any lines or picture distortion.. just color fading in and out and changing colors.

Thanks

I've got the same problem, and by reading some of the posts I guess it's the convergence board? The thing is I order the board part # BP94-00383A but they sent me BP9500142E so I'm like ok, it looks the same. I start pluging the wires/pins and everything went smooth until I got to the big plug, it's different and it wont plug in. So I'm thinking it's the wire problem, board looks the same. So i force push the old plug and somehow got it in there, but when I turned the TV on, nothing, everything stayed the same...so now I'm returning this board and getting my money back, but the thing is I dont know if I should look for the original board, or is there something else that might be wrong?

In a different thread, someone mentioned that a repair tech had to re-use a connector from the old (bad) board in place of one on the new board. Sounds like your board itself is probably OK, you might just need to swap the connector. Make absolutely sure you replace it in the correct direction (end-for-end); the connectors are all polarized so that the cable plugs in correctly, but if you reverse it when you swap it you could possibly destroy lots of circuitry. Take a picture before you remove the good connector from the old board just to be sure.

I had same problem with mine, I just cut off from the gray wire the piece of plastic that snaps in, the old connector won't work either. Just cut that piece and is fine now, I only needed to cut it from 1 end since the other end was connected on the board itself
