If ALL they gave you were the ICs - How can they call it a "kit?" You could have just ordered Quantity/Part number yourself.
Resistors should be marked with a value printed on them or a color stripe code.

If resistors "charred beyond recognition" how come they weren't noticed when part numbers of ICs were obtained?Crazy

The kit contained IC's & resistors, and if I could recognized the value or stripes on the old resisters I wouldn't be asking that question here. Also, noticing that a resister is charred does nothing for me with regard to obtaining it's value...

Your best bet is to obtain a schematic and parts list,

What about the sheet of paper that usually comes with factory authorized "kits" that says something to the effect of:

STKxxx-xxx = ICxxx & ICxxy
xxx ohm 1 watt = R842, R858 & Rxxz
etc.?Shocked

Thank you for your reply. However, I have a schematic but it is not clear enough to see the values and the more I enlarge it the more illegible the text becomes. I guess I will just wait for an answer from the company where I purchased the kit...

Thanks but the sheet that came with it only list qty, item and description and there is no reference to location. I'll find the info some where. For now I'll take a look at the schematic that I have in DJVU format and see if it is any clearer...

Hi, R842 is a 2.2 ohm 1 watt flameproof resistor, R858 is 3.3 ohm 1 watt flameproof resistor.
Before applying power, check all flameproof resistors in convergance area whether they look bad or not.
Good luck.

Re: [f67bird] JVC AV-56WP30 Convergence Repair [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks to everyone for their assistance. I got the resistor values from the company where I purchased the kit, I replaced the 2 resistor along with the convergence IC's and the TV is now back to working as well as ever. I was surprised by how easily it was for me to do this myself, considering I have never done this before, and I think that it is insane for repairman to charge so much for such a simple repair... :)

Now lets look at that. A repairman must have spent time training. 4 years for me. He must know the law as to what is safe. He must advertise his services. He must have premises and transportation. He must have insurance. He must buy a whole assortment of tools. He must have Phones Fax computers. He can now look at your TV. Its not as simple as a half hour in the house worth X bucks.

Re: [rrobor] JVC AV-56WP30 Convergence Repair [In reply to] Can't Post

I understand your concern, I wish the best for all TV repairman out there and I am well aware of what is required to maintain a small business of any kind today. However, I am also aware that with the ever increasing cost for such services the line is growing much thinner between the cost to repair and the cost to replace. Hence the reason for so few repair shops in my area that I decided to do it my self, and rather than pay up to $400 I would have simply replaced it and put it on the curve. Never the less, I respect your opinion and I wish you well.
