Bush 2863NTX/A Can't Post

My tv makes a buzzing noise which sounds like an electrical short.
I have taken the back off an there is a cable going from a box on the chassis to the back top of the tube.
The buzzing/crackling sound comes from where the cable goes in the tube.
Is there a fix or is the TV dud? I still get a decent picture and sound.

this sounds like corona discharge usually caused by damp or possibly the aquadag on the back of the tube. switch off and discharge the tube by using two plastic handled screwdrivers, one touching the black aquadag on the back of the tube body and the other touching the first ones metal blade while you stick the end under the rubber cap at the tube anode connection.dont be startled by the bang as it discharges. do this twice .then take the rubber cap off the back of the tube and clean it and clean the tube around the connection hole.you can buy tins of sealant for high voltage points at electronic stores so spray some on and reconnect.switch on when dry and it should be ok.

Thanks Chris,
I'll report back once I have carried out the test.

Stop smoking would be a help for both you and TV, usually tar causes this.

I don't actually smoke, having given it up 13 years ago, but thanks for the advice.
I can't comment on the previous owner from whom I inherited the TV from.
