Cable input shot? Can't Post

I have a 32" Sony tv that is about 6 yrs old. I had a storm the other night and it seems like the lighting when through the cable and blew out the input for the cable line. Does anybody know if the tv is shot or is this an easy fix? Thanks for your help. Paul

do the tv come on?

do you get a raster or not?

do you get sound when you got the cable hooked up?

it could be alot of things wrong. i would do this first, plug into my ext video and audio jacks and see if i get pic and sound. if i do then i would look at the tuner first. if i didnt get ext audio and video then i would look at the signal processor chip or the cpu chip and on down the line....good luck

A model number would help. but it more than likely blew the audio/video switching IC.

Hi,

The tv does come on, it has snow and hissing sound from the snow. The dvd player that is hooked up works perfect. When I have the cable hooked up it asked me to connect the cable in my set-up on the tv screen. Thank you.

Mel,

The model number is KV-32S42. If it comes down to replacing the audio/video switch is it hard for an amateur to do? Where is the best place to buy parts? Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the advise. Is this something a novice can do?

If you have had experience soldering on a PC board as thin as tissue paper without burning it up and you can order a tuner from California and send the old one back, Hey it's a snap! Go for it !
