My mother in law was given a Phillips VCR/DVD for Christmas. It states in the manual that an external tuner must be purchased to allow VCR recording as there is no internal tuner in the unit. The local cable supplier, Brighthouse, says that a generic cable box off E-Bay won't work because they can't "communicate" with it and we must rent one of theirs. I think they're blowing smoke since the cable works just fine with the internal tuner in the TV. I just want to put an A-B box in the line so she can switch over and record on the VCR when she wants to. Does this sound reasonable and what type of cable box(tuner) should I look for? Thanks for your help!!!
