Future of TV Can't Post

I work for a design firm in San Francisco and we are in the process of recruiting some participants in the bay area for a project about the ‘future of TV’. I am hoping that you may be willing to help us out or to put us in touch with people that fit some of categories and might help us out.

If you’re not in the bay area, feel free to join the discussion and let us know about what you want your TV/home media experience to be like.

About us:

We are a global Industrial Design consultancy based in SOMA, with 30 years of experience in creating products that people love. A large part of our process is meeting with and learning from the people we are designing for – that’s why we want to hear from you!

What we want to do:

We are hoping to spend some time with TV people, either in their homes or in our own studio in SOMA, for a fun and informal session that looks at ideas of what TV could possibly be! The sessions will be up to 2 hours long, and our participants will be generously financially reimbursed for their time.

About what we’re looking for:

Above all else, we would like to talk to people who are forward/future thinking about what they want out of their home media experience and wanted a experience that they didn’t exist so they made it.

First type of TV watcher - The TV protot¬yper (Think ‘Mad Scientist’ for TV):

A person who has crafted their home TV experience to the extreme, build customer hardware or software to fit their ideal experience.

Has a dedicated computer/media service connected to their TV

Has pieced together a variety of components and pieces to assemble a home theater/entertainment room

A person who uses a slingbox /other remote streaming server

Someone who goes beyond simply buying componentry, creating their own components/modifying (physically/digitally) them to get an ideal experience

Second type of TV watcher - Average TV watcher who wants more out of their TV experience:

Uses their TV as an educational tool

Streams content to their TV

Uses social media on their TV and computer

Uses multiple devices [iPad/Tablet PC, smart phone, ect.] to interact with the TV
