Salesmen at Best Buy get paid minimum wage plus a very small sales commision! Does this make sense to you?

Off topic; Best Buy sales folks do not get paid any commision. They usually get paid about $8 to $12 bucks an hour (varies by area) but have excellent benefits.
$99 is the retail price for the cable the sales person offered you. They are high quality cables that Best Buy will stand behind. You can get good cables from the internet for cheaper but if it is bad when installed (scene it) you are on hold till you return and receive another cable form the vendor. You can exchange a bad cable at Best Buy no problem. If it's not long enough, exchange it for a longer one as well.
My 2 cents
