There could be many different reasons for the symptoms that you have sugested. The continuous red flashing is telling you that it has gone into protection mode. If it is continuous flashing, then there is probably a fault with the jungle IC (chip that controls the picture etc)
When the TV went dead, was there anything unexpected, a noise from inside? intermittant picture? etc.
You will need to take the TV to your local repair shop to have the problem seen to.
