Hitachi - 50VF820 Can't Post

I own a Hitachi rear projection HD television- 50VFB20.
The set is was bought in Oct.2005. For the past couple of weeks the picture and sound will not start. The blue, red and other red lamp will glow and then it will stop at the last red light ( Temp). During this start up i would hear sound like the set is trying to start. I have the lamp checked and it is fine. Any suggestions on what could be wrong or how to get this working.

I took the lamp assembly to a TV Tech shop who checked the lamp.

Crazy Well I guess the next step is to check the ballast board. That is the board that lights the lamp. Check the basics . .swollen caps and voltage going to the ballast if you have a meter. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your reply! It does start up sometimes but it is not consistent at all. I will get the ballast checked. Will it still sometimes work if the ballast is bad.
