Hitachi C28W40TN Can't Post

I rescued this TV from a skip, surprisingly it doesn't work. When I press the on/off button, the following happens

- No red or green light lit
- Fan spins intermittently
- There is a clicking sound from right-hand side of TV looking from back

My (untutored) thought is something to do with the PSU (I assume it has one!)
Any enlightenment as to what is really wrong please?
Is it worth fixing?

you are supposed to rescue dogs not tv's.firstly its probably been soaked by the rain, pissed in by animals and thats after someone threw it away! try disconnecting the horizontal o/p transistor and see if the power supply works(should give out about 120volts). also check the regulators for bad solder joints.in future keep away from skips and landfill sites.

Hi techChris.
The TV had only been in skip about an hour, it was sunny and all local animals had been for walkies!
I forgot to mention a smell, from right hand side of receiver looking from back. No smoke though. On further investigation, my nose centred on what I think is an HT? transformer. It has a thick lead coming from it which goes onto the side of the tube. It also has a focus control and another control which says "screen". Underneath the PCB, I noted that there was a brown stain round several of the pins. I have resoldered all the pins on this item but there is still no standyby/on red/green light

yes its the flybacktransformer.probably getting hot due to shorted turns.the transistor is probably gone too. its the flat one on the heatsink nearby.the problem you have is not knowing if anything else is gone till you replace them
