Usually by the symptom your TV has. Most techs have had experience with different issues before & these issues generally leave clues as to which board to look for the problem.

With your question, do you have a TV that's not working properly or are you considering becoming a technician & would like to know how to diagnose problems?

If you took it to a repair shop the technician (or store owner) will be vague on purpose. This is their living so they have to be as secretive as possible regarding what's wrong or their customer would not pay to have it repaired, instead they'd be repairing it themselves.

I too am a tech & repair TVs & electronics daily & I do not tell my customers everything; I mainly give them an estimate as to the repair cost & leave the decision up to them. If they ask what's wrong I'll give them general answers.

For those that are smart enough to get on these types of forums & ask for advice are generally not going to walk into a repair shop so here many techs will give whatever advice you need to assist you with your repair.

Re: [Repair man] Hitachi P50T01U [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for taking the time to reply , I do realise that repair people in what ever trade or business, will be vague with their prognosis ( nothing is an exact science) but , the description of the problem to me over the phone " Its the main processor board is the problem " but we cant fix it . when I asked which board it was ( mainly because I want to sell the unit for spares or repair ) so I can list in my add. I have not come on this site to wind anybody up or try to learn any secrets , I was just looking for some professional advice as to whether , 1, my unit would be viable to repair . 2, where or who would be available to do so. and 3, if not economically viable, is it worth selling for a small amount (as spares seem to be no longer available) as one lump? or dumping?

It would take quite a bit to wind anybody up on this site, we're here to help those who ask. Most techs on here are happy to help & teach if you want to learn. I think you should try repairing the TV yourself (with the help of the techs on this site) & depending on what's wrong with it will determine what you should do with it.

Can you tell us some details about your TV? ... You already mentioned it's an Hitachi, What's the model number? What symptoms was it having that lead the repair shop to say it was the main processor board? Does it have the same symptoms now that you have it back (I'm assuming you have it back?)
