JVC AV-36850 Can't Post

This set, when power button is pressed, the relay would engage and then u would hear disengage and the set doesn't power on. Thought it might be a bad relay but i checked it out and its not. I did some troubleshooting in the horizintal section and the horizontal drive transformer (T521) seems suspect. I can't find a replacement anywhere tho, can somebody help?

Horizontal drive transformers dry joint is common, actually being faulty is rare, check your findings very carefullybefore trying to find that. Also the set seems to want to close down, more likely to be the output than the drive.

Check or replace C926 (1000mfd@35v and C544 (100mfd@35v).

Okey I suggest just reply instead of quoat.

I would first do what Paulpablo suggested, even if those caps "checked" good then just replace them. And how did the HOT check? Did you check that for short? And do you have a IHVT check meter? I would also check the IHVT.

No, unfortunately i don't currently have a IHVT meter. I will recheck the HOT for short but i think that cheked out ok as well. Ok, will replace the caps.

Ok, check that HOT and did you check for cold solder joints on that horz drive xfrmr as rob asked?

The HOT is ok. It's D2539 and has continuity between base and emitter but this is normal for this number. I changed the caps as paulpablo sugessted and checked for cold solder joints. Will report my results.

Re: [maverickr] JVC AV-36850 [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok you say there is continuity between B&E, Im assuming you checked it out of circuit. when you say continuity do you mean full deflection? Low ohms? High ohms? What about E to B and C to E and C to B and reverse of those? There should be infinity in there some where.
If your getting full deflection B to E and E to B then I would suspect it is shorted. There should be low ohms there.
