JVC CRT Challenge Can't Post

Hey Guys,
So I'm basically trying to learn by attempting to repair my TV. I'm pretty good with electronics in general but have never attempted TV repairs :P

I got this JVC CRT television model number: AV32895, The tv operates and channels display perfectly however there is no Menu! No volume up notifications no anything! No time, no lettering on the screen saying mute, volume up/down, channel numbers. It's acting as if I got one of those old school tv's with a dial lol!!

Another thing is that when you press any buttons such as channel up down / volume, etc. It takes a long time before it does it.. ex: going to channel 12 you press 1 then you must wait then press 2 else it will not get it. Pressing channel up results in 10 second wait before changing the channel.

The red light on the front of the tv is also always on!...

What do you think this can be? I was thinking mainboard or ic eprom chip. But i'm not sure since if eprom chip was corrupted wouldn't it also display the channels bad? It's like software corruption lol so weird eh? What you guys think?

Thank you for your time really appreciated! Take care

check 5v supply to microprocessor. the character generator is within the micro not the eprom. if you do change the eprom make sure you buy a preprogrammed one for your model tv, to save yourself a lot of time and grief.

power supply seems to be in correct specs, microprocessor does have 5v supply...

This is weird.. you say the character generator is within the micro, put the menu's and the rest are they also within the micro? Perhaps a bad micro? Cause that could make sense why its taking so long to process channel requests and also why the red status light (which usually should be off unless a key is pressed) is always on!..

Is there a reset for the tv? I cannot even access service mode. A reset for microprocessor, programming etc.

check one of the front buttons is not stuck down or conducting by unplugging the lead to the front switch assembly and switch on to see if tv works.

Nothing like being SPECIFIC is there , ain't33 , oops I meant , ian33 ????

It'd be nice IF you were right this time about the micro & eprom....
You've been trying to sell them forever....
EVERY (nearly) time you post , it seems your keyboard popps out "eprom & micro"....

The point of troubleshooting is to FIND the problem.....

NOT so much these days....
Maybe where you're at there's a problem with cold sloder joints....MAYBE !!!

IF you KNOW they ARE there , go for it....
IF NOT , then you HAVE to troubleshoot....
NOWHERE in ANY of my schooling or experience does it say it's basic troubleshooting to get rid of bad connections....
