LG 42LC7D Can't Post

This TV has an intermittent stby power loss, the front power LED does not come on. If the AC chord is unplugged a few times it comes back on with normal operation. The Main control logic board is the problem because I've replaced them with new boards. I'm trying to repair these board to component level to resell them because they are otherwise new boards. These seems to be a factory defect. I suspect the reset circuit on these boards. I'm trying to find schematics or component information for these boards. The LG 32," 37", 42' models use these boards.

Yes, I'm experiencing this problem too.
Anyone have any more info on this?

I have found a service manual with schematics at
http://www.jordansmanuals.com/default.aspx?Brand=LG&Product=TV-LCD

This manual includes the reset circuitry, but I haven't dug into it.

Solution

The software of TV has to be updated. Update the firmware using a USB flash drive. For warranty

work, you have to write this service bulletin number “0IVL20080317” in the remark or description

cell.

Update Instructions

1) Copy the firmware to a USB flash drive in a folder named “LG_DTV”. Only copy the file for the model

you are currently updating.

2) Turn on the TV and insert the USB drive into the TV.

3) If the firmware is newer than what is already installed, the upgrade menu should open automatically. If the update

menu doesn’t open, press MENU on the remote and select OPTION. Now press the 7 key 7 times and the upgrade

menu will open.

4) Select START and press ENTER on the remote to start the software upgrade.

5) The TV will copy the update from the drive and then install it. Do not turn the TV off until it is finished.

6) The TV will automatically turn off and back on after the upgrade is successfully finished. You can now remove the flash

drive and use the TV. To check the current firmware version, press the instart button on a service remote control.

You may be able to find it on the web.

To the best of my knowledge, these are only released to LG service centers. I have to log on to their service center support areas to get firmware.

Re: [Ralph2] LG 42LC7D [In reply to] Can't Post

That's my only suggestion.

I'm an LG service center,,,I am used to going through them, so I really don't have any experience finding their firmware any other way.

Re: [Ralph2] LG 42LC7D [In reply to] Can't Post

One suggestion on what I've seen with these, check for cold solder near the tuner.

My set in the living room had that problem,,,with mine there is also a crack internal to the main, so it won't run with the back cover screws into the main. But the no stdby problem was cold solder.
