Panasonic tv problem	Can't Post

My 5 year old 27" Panasonic television has no sound. When you change channels, they come in very snowy, then clear, but still no sound. Cable company says the tv is on its way out. Can this be true? TV does not get much use. Probably not worthwhile to fix if this is true.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like capacitors in the IF stage dried out for the picture problem, the sound could be anything. Is it worth it, Look at the sharpness of the picture when hot, is it crisp and bright or a bit flat. If its crisp enough regardles of the snow then a bit of TLC and it will be fine.
