Protron PLTV3250 Can't Post

My Protron PLTV3250 has no red light. The TV stops working, so I put it apart and found a couple bad capacitors. After replacing them I get 5 VDC stand by voltage, except no power light. My question is how can I check for 24 and 16 volts? If I understand right, something has to happen to turn those voltages?

Re: [vmayak] Protron PLTV3250 [In reply to] Can't Post

vmayak;....

Here ya go;.....

How do I post pictures?
I'll simplify this.....
1st , take a GOOD pix with your camera....
Upload it (them) to your computer....
Save it as a JPEG......
Save it to your desktop....
Give it a name so you can find it easily....
Go to
http://imageshack.us/ or
http://register.photobucket.com/step1
& sign up & join.... They are both FREE to join & use....
Upload your pix....
Select a proper sized pix or enlarge it....
Hover your mouse over the pix & right click.....
Select "copy"....
Come back here & paste your pix in your post....

I suggest you use imageshack as it is easier....

When posting a pix from imageshack.us do this;...
Select the pix you want to post from "My Images"....
Right click on the image you want to post....
A box with several choices will appear....
Choose "View Image"....
When that window opens , right click your mouse anywhere
in the pix to get "copy" up in another set of options...
Click on "copy"...
Do NOT zoom or enlarge the pix there or we will need an IMAX
theater to view it !!!
Come back to the box you are posting in , right click "paste" & Ta-Da ,
your pix shouild pop up full sized & clear as it was taken...
Before you post the pix in the thread , go to the "Preview Post" button
at the bottom center where you are making your post & click on that one time....
Wait for it to load the post...
Scroll up & check your post & pix...
If the pix is too small or too big , go back to imageshack
(or photobucket) & make the needed adjustments....
If you need any further help or info , just post....

IF you need any further help or clarifications , just post &
I'll answer ASAP to help you.....

GOOD LUCK.....Sly....

NO problem with that...
My ONLY concern is when you OR anyone else does comment , that they do so with accuracy & KNOWLEDGE behind the help they give....
You clearly have NOT done your homework on LCD TVs (You haven't even started the course yet) & you're here giving advice to someone that has a problem with a LCD TV ....

In case you hadn't noticed , I said this about my expertise in post #6;=>...

As far as I'm concerned , from your other posts in other threads , it's STILL "BUYER BEWARE"....
Sorry , but , facts is facts....

I don't remember ANYONE doing that here ....

Show me ONE place you said that....
I've searched many of your posts & nada , not a ONE has that statement in them....

It is NOT a repair shop...Correct...
IMPOSSIBLE to put one here....
BUT , it IS a TV REPAIR forum....(Along with other services , threads , etc)....
The people who post here expect advice that will be of some good....
NOT speculation from inexperienced so-called techs....

I commend you for your willingness to advance yourself in electronics....

i dont think you have to no anything speacial to repair a lcd tv power supply same components as any other Switch Power Supply.I no of ppl that only repair power supplys an they no nothing about tv etc.
lcd tv is easier to repaire than crt tv some ppl dont even call it repair they call it board swap.
i only try to help this guy because i recently work on a tv like that with smilar problems and got it goin in less than 20 mins.
oh and i also want to no u a Veteran in what?
because i can see alot of ppl still wait for help on they tv,s

Re: [ian33] Protron PLTV3250 [In reply to] Can't Post

ian33;....

You ain't going to remember this , hell I doubt you are even old enough....
Back when TV first came out they were made with vacuum tubes....
Transistors were not around then....
A ton of people jumped on the TV repair bandwagon....
They would open up the TV & change a tube or two....
They were known as "tube changers" & NOT TV techs....
When transistors did come into vast usage in TVs etc , the tube changers dropped like flies....
TV techs were the people that when a tube did not fix the TV , went into the circuitry , diagnosed the bad part(s) & replaced them...
I am a true TV repair tech & NOT just a tube changer....
Todays techs including you are nothing more than board guessers & changers....
NOT techs....
Techs have the ability to figure out (Diagnose) the problem & fix it....
Not just change a G.D. board...

True that power supplies have a lot in common , however , ever try to sub one ???

The caps that I replaced were the secondary capacitors. Yes the tops were popped. I checked the capacitors, and I only getting the voltage only on 5 volts area and slightly more than 5 Volts, the rest capacitors on secondary site I get 0 volt. What the esr meter? I have Fluke 83 III multimeter.

esr meter for testing capacitors, thats what i use to find leakey caps when the top is intact http://www.electronicrepairguide.com/blue-esr-meter.html what is the voltage of the capacitor you geting 5v on? oh and use the secondary ground for checking for voltage on that side.also what is the voltage on the big filter cap in the primary side, used primary ground for that one

We don't have a war as yet....
But if you want one , you'll get one...
Let's get something straight....
What I said in the last post is Gospel TRUTH & NOT BS !!!!
IF you take it as insulting , degrading OR personal , then YOU have a problem with the truth....
So far , WHAT gives you the right to call yourself a "tech" ???
Last week I couldn't even spell technician , now I are one ????
Is THAT the way you think ????

BTW;....
ESR meters do NOT check for "leakage"....

OK , I lied about this;=>...

I have NO idea what;=>..."pa choue la" means...
Care to put that in English ?????

I'm guessing that it's something nasty or you'd give it to me in ENGLISH !!!!

Ok, I will try this. Only the problem I did a research and ESR meter stand for "Equivalent Series Resistance" that is more costly than power supply itself. I will stick with my Fluke to troubleshoot the board. To buy new power supply is way cheaper than the ESR meter itself. But I have wait, until I’ll get the new fuse, because I blow one.
