Remote Problem?

I have a 4 year old 19 inch Philips TV.Yesterday the remote quit working.Tried new batteries with no luck.Bought 2 different universal remotes and tried them,no luck.I am assuming the remote control sensor on the TV is shot?Never heard of this problem before.Anything else I should try or just fix or buy a new one(TV)Where would I get the part and what would the cost be?If I decide to tinker with it myself.
