Sanyo 50" Plasma Can't Post

Greetings.

I have a 50" Sanyo Plasma, Model Number: DP50719.

When I turn the unit on, I get a strange line through the bottom of the screen. I'm trying to figure out if this set is repairable, or if it would be the panel. I've made a short youtube video showing the symptoms.

If someone could help me out, I would appreciate it.

You could have a bad lower buffer.

Sanyo plasmas are either LG or Panasonic chassis'.

In "most" cases a shorted buffer can be disconnected an start the set without it. If it is a chassis that will run without the buffer, the video should look normal on the upper half of the screen.

Good luck,
Jim

Jim, there is a Blue cable pair and a brown cable pair going to the bottom board. I'm new to this, but I'm assuming the board running across the bottom is the bottom buffer? Should both of these be unplugged to test this theory?

The inside of the set has Panasonic on it.

The buffer in question would be on the left side of the panel from the back. There is a top Y-buffer (stamped SU on Panasonic). And a lower (SD). The one labeled SD can be completely removed from the TV and the set should run with video on the top half of the screen.

From what I've read on various websites, it does indeed sound like I have a bad buffer board.

I've numbered these boards. Which one should I unplug? I think you're talking about the one leftmost but it's connected to #3.

Thanks!

2.

No offense intended, but your questions are making me wonder. Do you have any experience with electronics?

The area you are troubleshooting carry a lot of power. You are getting into an area of the TV that could cause SERIOUS injury.

Not at all!

Do these things still zap you even if they're unplugged? If so I'm ready to put the back on and take it in. I just don't want to waste my time if it's the panel (which is basically all I'm trying to figure out).

They can a few minutes after running, but that is usually bled off quickly.

I doubt you have a bad panel, but the way to tell is remove the lower buffer, then start the set without it connected to the Y or upper buffer.
