Sony KV27V40 dead Can't Post

Hi, I have a sony KV27V40 set that ha sgone dead on me. The unit cliks and then goes into shutdown mode with 4 blinks in between each pause. So far, I have tried the following. It appears the relay latches on but then i loose the B+
1. turned up screen - no success
2. The CRT does not light up - no B+ secondary
3. disconnected the IC vertical deflection - error still exists
4. disconnected the rectifier - same thing
5. disconnected the flyback - samething
6. the hot transister seems to be making a noise internally when powering up. I disconnected that - same thing
I am at a lost here. anyone know anything to try for troubleshooting. I cannot seem to get rid of the error.

Thanks,

Mike

I forgot to mention the chassis is BA4

Replace IC602.

Is that the voltage regulator chip .... if memory serve me correctly? Those regulators bit the dust often.

Re: [HiTech] Sony KV27V40 dead [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the replies. After further review, it seems that I am not getting any voltage on T603. It has the 170 volts in but nothing on the other side. I took the transformer out and checked for any winding that are open. All I get is a 0.5 ohms across every 2 windings(2 terminals). This transformer is the one that is supposed to give me the 135 volts out. I even floated the necessary terminals and checked for voltage but got nothing. I am using the ground from the cold side to check the voltage. The 170 volts on the input side I am using the hot ground, which I believe is correct checking. How do I check this transformer out thoroughly to finalize it is part of the culprit. As this part is no longer available. Is there any way I can remove it and hook up voltage to it and check to determine whether it works or not. This is not the FBT.
I know that the H-out transistor has been shorted, I get 0.5 ohms across each terminal unconnected to board.

By the way the chassis is BA4D not BA4.

Thanks for any input.

You just found your problem. If the horizontal output is shorted it will cause the TV to shut down. The PIT transformer T603 is OK. Put it back in. Replace the horizontal output and the flyback transformer and you may be OK. The only thing that concerns me is the four blink indication. For horizontal output failure you should get a two blink indication.

The four blinks is a Sony diagnostic tool which indicates that the set is going into vertical shutdown caused by no vertical deflection.
