meamer2;..... Does the TV still have sound when the problem acts up ???? Just curious....... Try this anyway;.... Sony has a self diagnosis code for their big screen TVs that may also apply here... Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, >>>try turning up screen slightly.<<< The "><" part is what I'd like you to try...(Don't worry about the rest..).... The "screen" control" is on the flyback... Remove the back cover from the TV... On the chassis is a transformer that has a heavy red wire coming from the top & connects to the side or top of the CRT... That wire has ~30,000 volts on it when the set is on & can hold that charge for quite awhile even when the set is off & UNPLUGGED.... So keep clear of that wire... That transformer is called the "flyback"... On the side of it there are 2 controls... One is called "focus" & may be marked "F" or "focus"... The other one may be marked as "screen" or "G" or "G2"... Mark the side of the control (G) in such a fashion that you have a starting point marked... With the set on , (Give it about a minute to warm up) turn the "G" control SLOWLY clockwise till a pix pops in.... As SOON as it does STOP turning the control... Hopefully , that's all it needed... IF you are successful , this means the CRT has aged & could be on it's way out... You have an 8 year old Sony & that's about the norm for them... Have no fear , tho , this adjustment could give you some more years of use... I really hope this helped... GOOD LUCK......... Later...Ron.M........ Veteran & Retired TV technician
