Sylvania LC195SLX Can't Post

Unsure I have a Sylvania LC195SLX TV that emits a steady, high pitched squeal as soon as I plug it in. The screen is black and none of the lights come on. The powere button doesn't respond either. The squealing continues until I unplug the set. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I've always liked this set and hate to throw it away if I can fix it for a reasonable price.

First step is to open it up and look for anything unusual.

Quite a while back, I had a Philips with a similar problem. Turned out to be a transformer or coil in the stanby power supply squeeling. Listen thru a piece of rolled up printer paper to isolate the source.

I'd suspect either something shorted in the supply or something loading down the supply.

The set isn't working after all.Wink

jts1957,

I opened it up and everything looks normal. None of the caps are bulging or leaking. The set was manufactured in November '09.

mel,

I tried the newspaper trick and isolated the source of the noise to a yellow transformer on the back of the main board. The numbers on it are LTT2PC0XB044 and BCK-28-9923. It's within an inch of where the 110V power cord is soldered the main board. There is also a large capacitor 270uF 200wv within a 1/4" of the transformer.

I hope that helps.

If it is the transformer plates vibrating against each other and the transformer is not encapsulated, sometimes just spraying it with clear acrylic spray will solve the problem.
