TV43 Can't Post

Just wondering if anyone else has ever come across the problem of the plastic base of a valve television crt coming loose? Any tips on how to deal with it. I have not pulled on the wires but it has been loose for a long time so other people may have done so. Is there a way of checking if wires are intact? Can this problem be fixed if the base is pulled right of and I start from scratch?

This often happened with all plastic based valves. There is no way to

tell whether any wires have broken. Try not to rotate the plastic with

reference to the glass envelope. If there is any of the original fixative

on the glass this may give you a guide to where to re glue the parts

together then try a run up with fingers crossed! If you are lucky, just

remember not to put any more stress on the plastic-glass join!

Is there hope if I try it and realise there are wires broken?

There is a slight chance of fixing any break if the plastic comes away from the glass far enough to see the problem and provided the break is not too close to the glass. The wires are sometimes soldered to the base pins but getting all of them out at the same time is near impossible. The wires must be relocated in the correct pins when refitting because the base has a locating pin/bar. My advise is to "bin" it!! Sorry!
