I have a GE TV, Mod. 25GT270 with CTC185 chassis. It blew the fuse , I replaced it and it blew again. I traced the problem to the Horiz. Output transistor, replaced it and the short went away. It tries to come on but screen won't light up and it pops out the speaker. It goes POP POP POP POP POP like a clock ticking. I also hear a faint ticking around the Flyback Transformer with the speaker unplugged. It crackles some on the front of the picture tube if you touch it. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Check; fly back, and the regulator, if ok, than if r4001 is opened replace cr4103,cr4105,r4001, also check; c4153 33uf 200v,c4005 250v .012,and cr4103,good luck.
You could replace the flyback but I suspect that given the symptoms you describe, I suspect that there is more than the flyback at fault. Probably best to just replace the set. I would suggest that you stay away from RCA/GE and Zenith. Cheaper up front usually does not equal cheaper in the long run.
This is a matter of subjective opinion. Find a NAME BRAND set (other than GE/RCA or Zenith) that best suits your particular tastes at the best price and go for that one. I have had good luck with Panasonic and Sharp.
I would agree with mel, add sanyo and other names like that, names that have gone for a few years then pop up again are sus and look at place of manufacture. Made in China or any cheap labour country is very iffy. GE etc has been sold and resold as a name in consumer electronics, it is not the GE you know as makes Jet engines and is in the space program so makes a product made to sell, like from the Billy Joel song, the entertainer. "Like another can of beans".
I wll add another note to this subject. I have been keeping up on the number of different brands of TVs and the total now is an astounding 67. But the sad part is, there are no schematics and no parts available for 58 , no thats not a typo, 58 is the correct number. It is BUYER BEWARE TIME!

Thanks for the info guys, I'll tell my daughter about your opinions and we'll look at those . She can decide the one she wants. I appreciate all your help , it's been quite a while since I tackled repairing a TV. I still have tons of tubes, so thats how long its been.
No we are saying Sanyo JVC, panasonic are OK, Actually its easier than that, look at where they are made. China is cheap , enjoy it while it lasts then when it fails chuck it. The rest cost more but last longer and are more likely to be able to be fixed.
