TV Sound problem

While watching cable tv the sound went to just fuzz. However I can play a dvd and the sound is fine.
The TV is an RCA Entertainment series 32" tube TV. The picture is fine, but why can I only get sound with a DVD playing?
Please help if you know of anything like this.
