Toshiba 42HP66 Can't Post

The TV was on and and the picture went out then shortly after the sound. It can be turned on and off. I can not get any sort of menu to come up on the screen. I've tried unplugging it for a while hoping maybe to reset something. I was not in the room at the the time this happened. Any ideas on what it may be? Thanks in advance

Re: [Casper3641] Toshiba 42HP66 [In reply to] Can't Post

a simple way to help get a quick idea is by turning the set on and:

Short Pins 1 and 2 of P1 (Pin 1

is noted by a triangle) on Ctrl

PCB while the set is playing and

the pattern will display for as

long as you keep the short in

place

This pattern is generated on the control PCB independent of

the main chassis. If after utilizing this pattern the picture still exhibits no video it may be one of the PDP support boards (Control, Ysus, Zsus, X and Y Drive

PCB’s). If the pattern displays OK then look for a chassis side problem.
it can be a guessing game sometimes.

good luck

Thanks. How can I tell which board is the Control(?) Board? What does PDP stand for and what are the differences?

when you have the back off directly in the center in the lower half. it will have a large black.c. with a circle on it and two ribbon cables(very short) on the bottom side of it leading to the xl(lowest board on the left) and xr(" on the right) ..looking at the control board just right and lower thatn the right hand ribbon cable it will look like a small plug(empty) with the words " AUTO_GEN " (maybe) under the plug. you will turn the set "on" and take a small screwdriver and connect the 1 and 2 pins. your in big boy teritory now, welcome.
let me know how you do..
good luck

Does the power LED blink repeatedly?
