Toshiba TZ55X71 Can't Post

Hi Forum,
I have a problem with my TZ55X71 and I can't find a service manual, so I try it here.
The TV turns on, I have HV and sound, but no picture. When I turn the TV off, a horizontal line briefly flashes up. It's not exactly a line, it bulges out in the middle of the screen. I removed the front panel and turned the three colors up and I get the same line as I get when I turn the TV of. I have already checked all voltages on the power supply board and they are all within spec. Could this be a vertical deflection problem? If so, could someone give me some ideas how to verify this.

Thanks, Sigi

Find the vertical IC. Download the IC's datasheet. Make sure B+, inputs and outputs are present.Wink

I believe that model has a problem with bad solder joints on the vertical IC. Simple solder touchup may solve your problem.

Hi jts1957 and mel,
thanks for the quick response. As I said before, I don't have a service manual. Do you have any idea where the vertical chip should be located?

Thanks, Sigi

Look for this attached to a heat sink.

Hi jts1957,
thanks for your help, I found the LA7833, supply voltage is fine, but the vertical input doesn't look right. It's just a spike with 0.5V, I would expect a sawtooth signal. Without a service manual it's getting difficult now. Could you probably point me in the right direction?

Thanks, Sigi

Realizing that the following is NOT the service manual for your exact set, the vertical output circuit, waveforms and voltages may be similar. Waveforms #3 (input) & #4 (output).

Re: [jts1957] Toshiba TZ55X71 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi jts1957,
thanks a bunch, that really helped, although I'm still at a lossFrown. The input signal (waveform 3) looks about right, but the output (waveform 4) is definitely wrong. The amplitude of the spike is about half of what it should be and the ramp is really not there, it just goes down a little just at the end before the next spike occurs. The 35V are fine on both pins (3 and 6), and I've checked all discrete parts around the LA7833. Would that be an indication that the LA7833 is bust? I don't have one to test and have to order one, so I just want to make sure that the problem is not somewhere else.

Thanks again, Sigi

Q301 failure is common. Replace C308 too.

Hi jts1957,
thanks, I've ordered the parts. I will let you now how I make out.

Thanks again for your help, Sigi

Re: [jts1957] Toshiba TZ55X71 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi jts1957,
I've replaced the parts now and it still doesn't work. I've although got another schematic that matches my set better, it's for the TN50X81. The IC's I identified that deal with vertical deflection are TA1241 and LA7860. On the LA7860 the schematics show a HSYNC (PIN 30) and a VSYNCH (PIN 29) which I get, but they seem to be inverted (if the schematic shows it correctly). I should see a short high spike and then a low with a period of 15.6 ms (for VSYNCH) and I see a short low spike and then a high with a period of 15.6 ms. I just don't understand what that means. I would upload a picture of the screen, but I haven't figured out yet how to do thatFrown.

Thanks, Sigi

Sorry, I made a mistake. Pin 1 is HSync and Pin 30 is VSYNC.
