Toshiba projection problem

My 8-year-old Toshiba 52" projection set has been experiencing severe problems lately. Began with multiple thin color lines running in a semi-circular pattern across the top of the picture. Then started seeing a wider blue band intermittently in pic. Today looks like convergence went totally off. Blue image about six" right of main image. Tried convergence menu and didn't fix (color WAY off under red/blue text). Any likely causes? Anything I can replace myself or does this require a repair call? If so, any idea of cost? I hate to put much into this with digital and HD closing in but really wasn't quite ready to take that plunge.
Any help or thoughts are appreciated.
