Trinitron Tubes...Why? Can't Post

Not so much a repair question but I was wondering why Trinitron tubes only have a lifespan of about 8 years? My parents had a 1994 Trinitron that went out 3 years ago. My friend owed me a lot of money so he gave me his 36" Trinitron that he got in 2000. I have only had it for about a year. Does this mean that I only have about 3 years left out of it? It was a $780 TV! Thanks

From what I have seen, that seems to be the norm. WHY? I think that only Sony knows for sure, but since the basic principal of all CRTs is the same, I would guess that it has to do with the coating on the cathodes which gives off electrons. Maybe not thick enough or just looses emission capabilties quicker than other makes. In my opinion, they have had plenty of time to figure it out and correct the problem but the quicker they wear out, the quicker you will to buy a new one.
