Zenith SMS1943S problem. Can't Post

I have yet ANOTHER tv problem. I have a Zenith, model sms1943s, and the picture is gone. It is just a colored line across the middle of the screen, about 1/8 of an inch thick.
Any ideas? Thanks.

That is a 9-1457-01 main module and you will need to replace C2100 and IC2100.

Not knowing what that means, it sounds like an expensive repair. Is it worth doing?

It is a 19 inch TV and probably not worth it!

I have found that quite often, R3209 which is a 2.2 ohm fusible resistor supplying B+ to the vertical IC will open for some unknown reason. If you can do the work yourself, including changing the IC and Cap if necessary, it should be a relatively inexpensive indeavor.

I can probably do the work myself. I have very little experience with TVs, but I have built and repaired guitars, stompboxes, and amplifiers.

That's exactly what is wrong. Problem now is that I don't have the right resistor to fix it. I temporarilly put in a carbon comp resistor, and the picture came back. I did not leave that resistor in there, That was strictly for test purposes only.
Thanks.

I've probably got one in an old chassis in my boneyard. If you want to send me your address in a private message, I'll send you one.

Thanks Mel, I will let you know on that. I think I might have found some locally though. These were marked "flameproof resistors", the kid at the store told me these are "regular resistors", and that I shouldn't use them. Also, are they supposed to be 1/4 or 1/2 watt?

If this is, as stated feeding the vertical IC the minimum it will be is ½W. It has to be flame proof. If the TV was involved in any incedent and it was found you changed that resistor and didnt use a safety, you could be in all sorts of strife. Looking at several diagrams lots have a 0.68 ohm at 1W, being 2,2 ohm the wattage expended within the resistor is greater. It also depends where the resistor is. if its on the AC side of the diode it would be 1W on the DC side it could be ½W. It is not ¼W
