magnavox 36" Can't Post

I have a magnavox 36" tv that I purchased in 2003 that is in need of repair. I was watching tv the other day and the picture was going in and out, and then everything shut down,( tv and digital cable box) I turned everything back on but didn't get any picture. I trurned it off and then turned it back on and the tv started to make a clicking noise then shut down and started to smoke from the back. I don't know what it could be and don't want to spend too much on repairing it. Someone was saying it could be the picture tube, could it? I'm so upset that this happened b/c I don't use the tv that often. I have a 19" that is over 10 years old and still works like new. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

I don't think you CRT (picture tube) is bad. Most smoke comes from a cap, transformer or resister. In any case I would advise to take it to a service center. For a 36" our avarage repair cost is 95-130$. Good luck!
