need advice! Can't Post

I have an LCD monitor sitting around gathering dust. My son asked me for an LCD TV for his room and I thought I'd buy a ATI 9800 All-In-Wonder and convert a PC that I have, install that card and then he'll have a 17" LCD TV. I used to have the old 16MB version of that card and it worked great as a TV.

Or is there an advantage to having a dedicated LCD television?

Alex

The only advantage that I can see is that he wouln't be able to use the computer for things that you do not want him to use it for. It sure would be a lot cheaper way to go than buying a 17" LCD TV.

As a previous owner of an AIW 7500 (several years ago). I would say the ATI software is a major disadvantage. It was buggy/crappy. Perhaps they have improved it by now.
I also thought that the TV picture quality on the AIW was no where near as good as a normal TV. and a normal TV is just "simple" to use.

My advice would be to tell your son to buy his own TV. but that's a whole other argument.
