rca 24v511t Can't Post

i have a rca tv chasis m134c, when i turn the tv on the degauss relay clicks on then off and after that the tv shuts off. i do not see the screen light up at all. if i try to turn the tv on, after about 5 or 6 times of pressing the power button the tv comes on and works normal.
after letting it sit for about an hour i have to repeat the process again.

i took the back off and found L414 is burnt and crispy, what is this part and what do i need to do to fix this?
thanks for any help.

L414 is a horiz linearity coil...
It is connected to the yoke....
You need to check resistor R419 , a 680 ohm 1 watt in parallel with L414 & see if you have a bad connection or the resistor is bad...
Oftentimes the connection(s) is/are bad on the resistor & you can slide by with just resoldering the connections on the resistor & the coil....
IF you need the coil , part number is;=>...268354
You will have to either find a bad junker M134C TV & steal the coil from it OR find a RCA parts store in your area...
Every place I've checked shows the part "No Longer Available".....Unsure...
So good luck finding a new part....

Re: [Ron.M] rca 24v511t [In reply to] Can't Post

thanks for the fast reply ron. i checked r419 and it comes in right at 680 ohms, and it does have a bad solder joint so i resoldered both ends of r419.
i also removed L414 to check it out and the wires look good and the only thing that is crispy is the shrink tubing that goes around it.
what should the resistance of L414 be, i measured .5 ohms on it. is that right or is L414 fried?

kingm316;....

If the wires on the coil look good , the chances are that you stepped in %&*t & got lucky !!!!
The shrink tubing around the coil being "crispy" most likely is a result of the bad connection on R419...(Or just age & use..)...

The coil will read very low resistance on ohms...
.5 is OK....
IF the wires look copper in color & have an enamel coating that looks OK , the coil should be OK ....
Don't handle the coil too much as it may be weakened physically...
So I'd give it a try & see what happens when you turn the TV on...

GOOD LUCK !!!!....Smile....

kingm316;....

Sorry about the delay....
Local distraction here....

With the TV off check the Horizontal Output Transistor collector to chassis ground with your meter set on ohms...
That will be the center pin on Q411...
It will be mounted on a heatsink near the flyback....
IF there is no short OR low resistance , go to pin #2 on the flyback or R422 (.47 @ 2 watts)..(Also should be near the flyback) ....
Set your meter to "+" DC volts...(Approx 130 vdc)...
Turn on the TV & at the SAME time read the volts....

Post results...THANKS...Smile...

Have a GREAT 4th of July !!!!!

Re: [Ron.M] rca 24v511t [In reply to] Can't Post

the resistance reading never got under 5k ohms and started rising also. i checked the voltage at pin 2 of the flyback and when i pushed power the voltage shot straight up to 130v stayed a few seconds and dropped back down when it shut itseslf off. i pressed a power a couple times and had the same results.

I TRULY PROFUSELY APOLOGISE !!!!!

With all the spamming that was going on here , your email notification got lost in the shuffle (My message Center) ....

Let's try this again...

Unsolder & remove Q411 (The Horizontal Output Transistor) , it'll be on a heatsink near the flyback....
Turn the TV on & please post results...

THANKS for your patience...

Re: [Ron.M] rca 24v511t [In reply to] Can't Post

thats alright i tend to not check my email at all. when i check the tv with the horizontal output transistor removed, you want the voltage on pin 2 of the flyback right?

kingm316;....

That's fine ....
I really would like to see if the set stays on...
A meter reading from pin 2 of the flyback is best...
