try another tv on that outlet and use the same cable, most times the cable is faulty or it has a bad connection within the tuner. The remote is oils from hands leaching round the buttons. Take the batteries out and all screws you can find on the remote. Now put your thumb nail into the crack at the side of the remote and slide your nail along to release the tabs. Thumb nail is the best for this, knives etc damage the case.(cost is 1 nail per remote) If you get the top off check the panel for screws check the front led for bad solder and see that the crystal is still secure. Take the panel off, now you have the front and a rubber membrane wash that with harer and detergent and the front, lightly wipe the face of the panel with a damp hot detergent cloth, dry all and re assemble.
