I've never heard of that problem before. This is just a guess, does your set have a PIP mode (Picture in picture) If it does, when you call up PIP there is often a button on the remote that will allow you to move the PIP to a different position. I did as you suggested, the pip was in the correct spot and I could move it to the corners of the screen and resize it, but the menu didn't move.
