Newbie ??

Newbie ??	Can't Post

Hi - Just want to ask how far back you should be sitting from a 40" plasma TV. I'm looking for one for a condo and the room is only 11 feet wide.
I have a Sony 50" in my home and was told to sit at least 12' back from it. Also (real newbie ?) I'm thinking one of the Panasonic Vieras - how much difference does the 1080 make compared to the 720?

There's no rule to how far you should sit, it doesn't matter if you just watching tv or movies. 1080 is suggested if you have your pc hook-up.

Thanks - so 1080 is more necessary for games than just watching TV?

1080 isn't necessarily for games, 720 will do good just as equally fine with the PS3. but hold on? you were thinking a 40 inch plasma which im sure 40 incher is out of production.

Yes mostly panasonic and samsung, well if you're into games mainly, 720 monitor is suggested atleast you are in between considering your games, older games are only outputting 480i, 480p. 720 monitor still supports up to 1080 so why worry?...if you decided to full hd, the better too however it doesn't make that much difference unless you hook to a computer.

Not planning to hook up to PC or play games. Will probably only be able to sit 6 - 8 feet back from it. So wondering if I should go with something smaller than the 42"?

I have 58" and I sit about 10 feet away, and my friend has a 70" (LCD projector) and he sits about 11 feet away. One thing to consider is that most decent movies are shown between 1.85:1 and 2.40:1 aspect ratio, which makes them easier to tolerate at closer distances.
