Plasma vs LCD Can't Post

What my girlfriend should have wrote was that we want this tv for a room with a good amount of light, the living rm. I work afternoons so i watch daytime tv. I have a tinted film shade (like in a car) and blinds on the window just to keep the sun out to begin with. It has minimal light to average i would say. I really like samsung. plasma 50a550 so the shiny screen samsungs in general have is not a big deal i hope. I'm just wondering whats the best model tv for a living rm thats in an L shape with this type of lighting. I have a 40in. sony wega its just too heavy and big to move to my new apartment I bought this tv instead of a big rear projection tv because of the picture quality now matter where you view from it was the same, even though it cost twice as much as a rear projection much bigger in size. I do notice glare on the wega with the blinds up where im at now with um down its minimal. We have afriend who has a 46xbr4 and a nice pic it is sd channels and off angle viewing is bad as well as sports. we heard sony fell off. Can anyone give some advice in what i might wanna look at. lookin to spend btw $1,500 - 2,500. Thanks lost soul from the BX

It would be cool to compare the plasma tv ratings to their lcd counterparts. That way, you'll know if it sucks or not.

Good luck.

If you are trying to decide between a Plasma and LCD flat screen tv, this site has a pretty straight forward article that outlines the difference between the two as well. Its at http://www.justflatscreentv.com

Generally LCDs perform better than plasma when it comes to glare. However there are plasma TVs that have excellent anti-glare screens. In your price range you can buy the 50 inch Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD ($2500), the 50 inch Panasonic TH-50PZ800U or TH-50PZ850U (cheaper than the Kuro). First of all figure out what screen size is best for you depending on your viewing distance. If you need a larger screen than 50 inch, the TH-58PZ800U is just a bit over $2500.

All the above models have superb picture quality, Pioneer being the best. They are way better than LCDs especially in dark. So if you close the blinds you will get really great picture. If you keep the blinds open they still look at least as good as the best LCD out there. Pioneer has the best anti-glare screen, and Panasonic isn't bad either. Samsung is not that great, and if you have light that falls directly on the screen you will get a good amount of glare from Samsung.

There are high-end LCDs that handle glare well too. I'm not specialized in LCDs but you can check out Best HDTVs at cNet.com to see the best performing LCDs.

The thing is, all TVs get glare if sunlight falls on them. Some are better than others in this respect.

I think if you want great picture quality you should go for a plasma TV that handles glare well - Pioneer is the best choice.

If you want to read a very in-depth guide on plasma vs LCD check out my site ("Best Plasma Television" link in my signature). You will find all the guides you need on my site as well as reviews of the above mentioned plasma TVs.

Good luck!
