Darkish Picture Can't Post

Yellow again,
After I switched hyperboards, the picture on my set (57hdx82) appeared to be fine. Now for some resaon the picture looks to dark. I have a high definition cable box hooked up to colorstream 1 and a dvd player to colorstream 2 with component cables. Its the same in standard def as well as high def. The picture (in high def ) looks like it is real clear just darkish. I cleaned the lenses before my hyper repair. I tried turning the settings up in the menu for contrast and brightness but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. If I got into the service mode, are there settings in there that I could tweak to get my picture brighter again? Thanks!

Hi jts,
It seems like the first few days after I swaped hypers, the picture was fine. I did notice that my Ant 2 input is not working. Wonder if this is related? By G2 you mean screen VR right? Would a hyperboard going bad cause the screen to be darker? Thanks!

You should already know that answer - from your own experience - it can kill picture, raster, etc.Wink

Tried g2 controls, didn't seem to make a difference. Your right about that hyperboard, it might be on its way going out. Might be time to send it out for recap.

Picture still on dark side. It seems clear but maybe not completely. After I put this last hyperboard in, the picture might not of been fine. Wife said she thought picture wasn't as bright before I started all this. I tried that touch focus button on the front and it came back with a touch focus error. Does this indicate my STk's need replaced?
Thanks!

Do you think my touch focus error is related to my darkish picture?

JTS1957,
When we were troubleshooting my set you had me turn up and down the G2 pots (top ones) on my set.
I did mark them with a sharpie before I moved them.
I'm still having trouble with a dark looking picture. After reading scores of post on different forums, people have said that you should never move these cause once you do you screw up the greyscale on it. Do you think this is what happened to mine? Before messing with the set my contrast was on 50 in setup, Now I have to put it on a 100
to watch it and even on this setting the dark scenes on the picture are still way dark. What do you think?

I think you should judge gray scale by tuning in a black & white TV show (or possibly turning color level to zero) and running contrast and brightness through their range. At all "usable" levels, picture should NOT have a color tint to them.

I did this and didn't see no color. Does this indicate the gray scale is ok?

The hardest thing for any color TV to do is reproduce a black and white picture at all usable levels of brightness and/or contrast. If yours passed, then its gray scale is fine.

Thanks JT,
At this point I'm sending this latest hyperboard in for repair. I'll post back in a couple of weeks if there was any change. Thank You!

Well I sent the hyper board out and had it recapped. Put it back in and still have the same problem, a darkish picture. I have to turn the contrast up to 90. Any thing else to check? Thanks!

Suggest reading the Service manual pages 10 thru 13.
A few things you can try, just be sure to "record" original values.

Re: [jts1957] Darkish Picture [In reply to] Can't Post

JTS, You were right again. It was the G2 knobs. When we were troubleshooting the set, I marked them with a sharpie. A little bit of movement made a big difference. When I checked them the first time from your suggestion early in this post, I started out just turning up the red knob, which made the picture reddish. I stopped there for some reason. While watching the tv yesterday and thinking about the problem I light went off in my head. Maybe I should try turning all three up and see what happens. Duh, That took care of the problem. Pictureis good again.
Once more thanks for all your help and patience!!
