JVC 48" Problem Can't Post

I've searched my livin booty off and can't seem to find an answer. I just got this TV for free from a buddy as long as I got it out of his garage. It's a JVC 48" 48wp74. The red and green work great but the blue has a streak that runs through the screen. I have no idea what it might be. I emailed a few tv repair shops to no avail.... I went to the convergance thing and the blue was pretty out of whack. I would marry the person that figures this out as im tired of watching my 22" LCD from 20 feet hahaha.

Neither do we .....
IF you could post a few pix of the problem , I'm sure it would help us out in figuring out what your problem is....

May or may not be a convergence problem....

MrSlithers;....

One of us needs glasses (eyeglasses & NOT beer glasses) & it ain't me.....Wink....

Care to try that again....
This time , check for clarity (focus) on your camera OR,....
After you paste them in your post , click on the "Preview Post" button located near the center bottom of the area you are typeing in....
It will change to the post you will see in your thread...
If the pix is bad , scroll down & un-paste it & make any changes needed (in your camera) to get a decent pix....
OR re-take the pix....
I can barely make out 2 possible problems , but , need clearer pix to confirm....

The camera won't focus on the TV. These are about the best I can do... It's just a blue streak as seen in the pictures.

I'll bet one choice is a 1999 movie starring Martin Lawrence and Luke Wilson. Smile

MrSlithers;.....

Based on that blurry mess I'm looking at ,
#1=..I'd say you have a bad convergence IC (Replace BOTH !!!)....
#2=..Blue focus is out &/OR...Bonus fault=
#3=..contaminated coolant....

To determine #3 , you will have to remove the front screen & look directly into the blue CRT lens...

If you need more info , post....

I'd look for a better camera , get rid of that crappy one you have now...

Good Luck....Sly.....

Crazy Ron I agree with issue# 1. I have seen this many times in JVC sets. Normally it is the green though. But all in all. Convergence IC's is the way to go.

Re: [MrSlithers] JVC 48" Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

MrSlithers;......

The ICs you need are STK392-110....
You will need 2 of these....
I reccommend you use ONLY Sanyo replacements as the generics are guaranteed to give you problems...
Also , please don't get cute & replace them with ANY up-grades like STK392-150, again problems VERY possible...

One source;=>...

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/...K392-110-/STK392-110

$16.75 +s&h....

OR;=>....
IF you go the eBay route , this one seems legit....

http://cgi.ebay.com/...mp;ff4=263602_304642

Don't forget heat sink compound;=>....

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/...at%20sink%20compound

Scroll down to item # 20-4505...
$3.09 ea. & enough for your ICs...
You can order them when you order the ICs & save on s&h...(Same company)...
I suggest you get the ICs & heat sink compound from MCM.....

OR find your own suppliers...

Also check ALL 1 &/or 2 watt resistors near the ICs for value...
Some may be burnt or off value due to the IC(s) going bad...
Replace any that are....

OR you can go here & get the whole kit & kaboodle;=>...

http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?cat=2536

You get this + ;=>

Kit Includes
  • OEM Sanyo Convergence Chips. Each kit includes the correct replacement convergence chips verified against the service manuals ( STK392-XXX, STK394-XXX etc ). Two chips per kit unless your model uses three - in that case we ship three. These are genuine OEM Sanyo chips. Sanyo was the primary supplier of convergence chips used in TV sets made by Philips, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and many others). Re: [Ron.M] JVC 48" Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Awesome. Thanks! Im gonna order the parts this week. I found on youtube on how to replace them. I've got 1 more problem though. On alot of the channels, the picture is larger than the screen. I hate it when i'm watching the hockey game and can't see the score or the scroll menu for Charter..... Is there a way to fix that?
