hitachi resistor Can't Post

Hi, I have a Hitachi 57F500A that needs a new resistor. Does anyone know the value of resistor R941? Thanks for your help.

For a 51F500a:
R941 0119695M RES.-MTL OXIDE FLM 1W 0.47-F 0

Probably the same. Choice is yours.

Thanks for the reply, however i dont quite understand what it means. any way you could simplify the terms. as in ohms and tolerance. Thanks.

R941 0119695M RES.-MTL OXIDE FLM 1W 0.47-F 0

Location Number: R941
Hitachi Part Number: 0119695M
Description: Resistor
Composition: Metal Oxide Film
Wattage: 1Watt
Value: 0.47 Ohms
Not sure: -F 0 probably tolerance / 10% or less

The bad news: you just proved you don't do this for a living.

Re: [jts1957] hitachi resistor [In reply to] Can't Post

Its a safety resistor, so if its a safety resistor, its a fuse and if it gave up the ghost it was due to a short something else. My advice is dont change that till you know why it failed. Its as common as hens teeth for a safety resistor to blow for no reason.

Why are you telling ME this?Shocked

The New User just asked for a "value."
I figured when he installed the replacement, the smoke coming from the new one or elsewhere in the set might cause him to give a thought to checking the surrounding components....

Hey man Im not telling you this, why would I. We are both a bit long in the tooth to change a safety resistor and think our issue is over. Just thought Id save the guy from the belief that all is well, only to see his new resistor glow red for a second. You and I both know a 1W burnt out has a cause, that poor sod doesnt.

Actually, i haven't replaced anything yet. I pulled the back off and after inspecting the board i saw that r941 was burned. i did test the pic fuse near it and it too was bad. your right, i dont do this for a living. its more of a hobby that i do make some money from. But thanks for the help. i greatly appreciate it.

jts, you were right. the new resistor smoked. any idea of what could be causing this to short out. i did check some other resistors and fuses around it and they checked out to be ok. thanks again.

When you fix you have to find these things out. R941 well that sounds like its in the power supply, Is it off a transformer? the other end, does it feed a diode? Does the diode test short. Resistors dont go short Diodes and Ics do and the odd capacitor. What does the set do without that resistor, Does it feed the vertical , can you run along the print from the diode and see where it goes. That is how you fix, not saying resistors around it look OK. If I am correct and its an LT line from the supply, chances are it feeds the sound with 24 odd volts and the sound IC is faulty. But thats a guess

IF schematic I'm looking at IS close enough (51F500a) ... Something connected to the SW+115 (PPD6 pin 9 & 10) volt line? Connect a DVM on ohms between there and ground - should be a climbing reading.
One side of R941 should connect to D916 cathode and Q905 emitter; the other side should connect to two E906 (500), E907(3000) "protectors."
My guess: the horizontal output transistor.

Hey guys thanks again for your help. no more smoke. but now it turns on for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. is it still the same issue or something else?

They all tested good. Now the set automatically turns on when i plug it in and i know that it should'nt. stays on for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. am i just wasting our time or is it worth the repairs. the tv is in flawless condition. except for the repair.

With a Digital Volt Meter (DVM). With it set to measure DC Volts put the black (Negative) test lead on "Ground" and the red (Positive) lead on Pin #9 or 10 of connector PPD6).

EDIT:

i did test the pic fuse near it and it too was bad.

What one is this?

R942 0700054M RES.-CARBON FLM 1/16W 10K-JB
10K ohm 1/16 watt carbon film

jts, thanks again on R942. I'm having a hard time getting a DVM. i have an analog multimeter. will this suffice for checking PPD6? also where do i ground it to.

IF YOU Know HOW to use it and it's still in good working order.Smile

Any Cold, yes cold ground will do. Pin 3 or 4 of same connector, Tuner case/cover, etc.

Be sure meter on DC Volts. Measure the cathode of D916 to ground. Should be approx. 115 Volts.Smile

ok, i checked D916. the needle did not move. it does move backward a little though. Does the board lights mean anything. they are pulsating when its on and the two at the very back dont turn on. thanks again jts.

FOR THE 2ND TIME .... Which one was that?Angelic

Did you "Check D916" OR "check the voltage from the cathode end of D916 to ground?"

Which board?, What Lights?Cool
