ITC222, RCA D52W20 Can't Post

I have an ITC222 chassis, RCA D52W20. and it makes a sizzling noise when i turn it on, with no video and the power light stays solid.

I have replaced the fly back twice and 7 or 8 bad caps all the same value, they were not vented just bulged.

i got the tv with the power board already taken out but, it wasn't hard to put it all the cables back. he also took pictures.

i did my best to record the failure, it's very poor video, sorry.

I also decided to post here after reading these threads.

I have soldering skills, made all my joints nice and solid and pretty to, no pin holes etc etc. made sure my caps were all facing the right direction.

cdoublej;.....

One of the worst chassis RCA ever made...
Best I can do is this;=>...

http://elektrotanya.com/...21.pdf/download.html

You need some electronic/TV background to use this manual.....
Based on the sizzleing noise you mentioned;...
The only thing I can suggest is to take a look at HV1 on page 34...
That's a High Voltage Splitter that I've run into in the past..
Other than that , you're on your own till someone else comes along...

Good Luck....Sly....

They are silent...
Mind you , I'm not saying it's bad , but , it is suspicious...

just wondering how you unhook the old one when i replaced the flyback we just cut the wire stripped a small section at the end and pushed it down in to the flyback.

cdoublejj;...

Can you take a clear close-up pix of the top part of the splitter & post it/them ????

There is some confusion over the part number for that splitter....
Your item in eBay is for a used (Red flag went up ) splitter...
The part number there is "160412A"....
And the model number is different...

However in the manual on page 45 upper right side is HV1 part number 263092...

I'm not sure the eBay unit will be the same....
My suggestion would be to PM the seller & ask him if he knows for SURE that his unit will work PERFECTLY in YOUR set...
Otherwise , consider this one;=>....
http://www.suburban-electronics.com/...-Replacement-Flyback

For a few bucks more it's the exact one & it's NEW , not used...

Does your splitter look like this;=>...

If so here's a better deal;=>...
http://www.ebay.com/...;hash=item5ae3b6e1e0
It's NEW....
The price is $9.99 starting bid & $5.00 shipping...

It's your TV....

worst case i'm out return shipping but, it hasn't shipped yet and i messaged the seller. i bought it for 18 cause i'm rather broke but, i'm not gonna waste time and money if thats the case if it comes to it i will cancel the order and the get the new one. next time i'm at the shop i'll take a pic of the flyback.

edit: the parts appear to look similar i'll be sure next time i take gander at the tv along with a pic.

http://www.ebay.com/...;hash=item5ae3b6e1e0

values could still be way off.

So the guy said it's the same splitter and that he is using the number stamped directly on the part, and that i would see the same number stamped on mine. I'll take his word on good faith since i don't have access to the TV right now.

I did just get to looking on the manual it says it's chassis atc221 i was reading in one field guide of forum that several chassis like itc or atc or something are really close to each other.

I had always thought it was itc222 because of what i thought remember being stamped on the back of the tv and PDFs i have been downloading and reading. seems to all look like the same stuff. I'm sure there is more to it than just looking the same.

Excellent pix , tho I had to go to an IMAX theater to view them....Wink....
THANKS....Smile...
Next time , use the "Preview Post" to see how humongus the pix are & see if you could cut down on their size a LOT...

It looks as tho those wires will have to be cut...
Unless you are willing to use brute force to pull them out...
That HV block is a one time use deal...
Cut the wire as close to the white shaft it goes into & strip off about 1/4 ~ 3/8ths inch of insulation & carefully push it into the new one...
Keep in mind that once it's in , it's IN...
You will not be able get it out again...
Make sure that the wire from the flyback goes into the SAME hole on the new HV...
Do not get them mixed up...
When you get the new one in , post before you install it as I have a test that you should run...OK....

Good Luck....

Have a GREAT day & weekend....Sly....

cdoublejj;.....

The 1st thing I'd like you to do is get rid of those gi-normous pix in post #12...
They're screwing up the whole thread....
Second thing I'd like you to do is check the numbers on the new splitter & see if they match the original....
If you can't read the numbers on the original , no matter , it would put to rest some doubts...
One other thing you did not mention is whether or not the TV stays on...

I will be online for ~3 hrs , so if you get back soon , we can go forward...
The test I refer to will not require a meter...
Depends on your info...

Yes the numbers match, they also appear to be exactly the same. The TV powers on and stays on until I switch it off.

THANKS....
One more question....
The test involves disconnection of a wire that has 30,000 volts on it...
EXTREME care MUST be taken so YOU or the TV do NOT get fried...
Are you OK with that ????

cdoublejj;....

That's called CYB or CYA....Wink....
Actually is CMB or CMA...Wink....

OK...
Leave the splitter mounted to the TV...
Identify the heavy red wire coming from the top of the flyback that goes to the splitter....
We're going to see if you can remove that wire without cutting it & making it shorter that it is...
Grab the wire at the top of the splitter & while pulling on it turn the wire 180* in one direction , then back 180* repeatedly till it hopefully comes out...
Leave the other wires in the splitter...

More after these messages....Stay tuned folks....Wink...

OK GREAT !!!!

A little unfinished business;=>...

Answer please...

Here it gets trickey...
That IS the wire that WILL have 30,000 volts on it when you turn on the TV...
Which is what we're going to do later....
You'll need some string (Cotton , plastic , anything BUT metalic) to tie the end of the red wire (READ CAREFULLY >>) AWAY from ALL metal chassis parts & ANY other wiring...
Reason is that when you do turn the TV on , the end of that wire WILL have ~30,000 volts on it looking for a place to go to (arcing)...
I WILL appreciate it if you could post a pix of it tied in place so I can verify it's safety...THANKS....Sly...
