i know now the contrast is the level of white. and brightness is the level of black. Contrast affects both the white & black parts of the pix , hence the name;.."contrast"
Brightness primarily affects the "white" part of the pix , hence the name "brightness"
raised the level of brightness from the knob on the flyback transformer and all it did was put a white haze over the picture. If the haze was like a bit foggy , I'd suspect an aged (10 yrs) CRT as going south gradually....
